Quick answer: For dry, rough or cracked heels, moisturise every night and add a gentle weekly clean-up. Wash and dry your feet, then massage a generous amount of Feet Cream into the heels and soles before bed. Once a week, soak your feet in lukewarm water and gently smooth the rough skin. If a crack is deep, bleeding or painful, or if you have diabetes, please see a doctor.
Why our heels crack
In Sri Lanka, most of us live in slippers and sandals. Open shoes let the heel skin dry out and spread with every step. Add hot floors, dust, long hours standing, and washing feet many times a day, and the heel skin gets thick, dry and starts to split.
Tired-feeling feet are also common after a long day at work, a temple visit, a wedding in new shoes or a day of travel. A few minutes of care in the evening makes a real difference to how they feel.
The cream: Feet Cream
Feet Cream is made for tired feet, heels and soles. It has Cactus Extract, Mint Oil, Aloe Vera, Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil and Lactic Acid, plus Niacinamide, Sunflower Oil and Vitamin E. As printed on the tube, it:
- deeply moisturises dry feet
- soothes rough areas
- helps soften heels and soles
- helps refresh tired-feeling feet
- leaves feet feeling soft and smooth
- Size: 50 g
- Price: Rs 1,990
- How often: once a day, preferably before bedtime
The daily routine (2 minutes)
- Wash your feet in the evening and dry them well, including between the toes.
- Take a generous amount of Feet Cream.
- Massage it into the heels and soles in circles until absorbed. Spend extra time on the roughest parts.
- If you like, put on thin cotton socks so the cream stays on your feet and not on the bedsheet.
The weekly routine (15 minutes)
Soak
Soak your feet in a basin of lukewarm water for about 10 minutes. This softens the hard skin.
Smooth gently
Gently rub the rough heel skin with a soft foot file, or massage a little Herbal Body Scrub over the heels in circles, then rinse. Go gently. The aim is to smooth, not to remove a lot of skin at once. Don't file or scrub over cracks that are open or sore.
Moisturise
Dry your feet well and apply Feet Cream as usual. Socks overnight help on this night.
Small habits that help
- Wear closed or back-strap shoes sometimes, especially for long walks.
- Dry between your toes after washing, to keep that skin healthy.
- Don't cut or pull hard skin with a blade or scissors.
- Drink enough water through the day.
- Be consistent. Nightly use matters more than how much you put on.
If the rest of your body skin feels dry too, our guide to an easy night routine shows how to fit body and face care into a few minutes.
When to see a doctor
Please see a doctor if:
- a crack is deep, bleeding, red, swollen or painful
- you have diabetes or poor circulation, as foot care needs extra attention
- the skin between your toes is itchy, peeling or white and soggy
- your nails change colour or thicken
Cautions
Feet Cream is for external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes and broken or irritated skin, stop if irritation occurs and keep it out of reach of children. Since floors can get slippery, take care walking after applying cream, or wear socks.
Frequently asked questions
How often should I use Feet Cream?
Once a day, preferably before bedtime, as printed on the pack.
Can I use it on cracked heels?
Yes, on dry and rough heels. Avoid applying it on cracks that are open, bleeding or sore, and see a doctor for those.
Can I use it on my hands?
