Quick answer: Both of our sunscreens give SPF 50+ protection with an invisible finish. Choose the Invisible Sunscreen Gel SPF 50+ if your skin gets oily or you sweat a lot, because it is a clear, light gel that spreads quickly. Choose the Invisible Sunscreen Cream SPF 50+ if your skin feels dry or tight, because it has Mango Butter and a moisturising feel. Whichever you pick, apply enough and reapply every two hours in the sun.
Why sunscreen every day in Sri Lanka
We live close to the equator, so the sun is strong for most of the year, even on cloudy days. Daily sun on the face can make dark spots and uneven tone look more noticeable, and it can leave skin feeling dry and tired. That is why sunscreen is the one step most skincare advice agrees on.
The problem many people tell us about is the feel. In our heat and humidity, a heavy sunscreen can feel sticky, look shiny or seem to melt off. So the real question is not "do I need it" but "which texture will I actually wear every day".
The gel: for oily, combination or sweaty skin
The Invisible Sunscreen Gel is the gel version of our Invisible sunscreen: the same SPF 50+ protection in a clear, fast-spreading gel instead of a cream.
- Key ingredients: Aloe Vera, Niacinamide and Vitamin E
- Feel: lightweight, spreads easily without a heavy-feeling finish
- Size and price: 100 g, Rs 1,990
It suits you if your face gets oily by midday, you ride a bike or travel by bus in the heat, you work outdoors, or you simply dislike creamy textures.
The cream: for normal to dry skin
The Invisible Sunscreen Cream is an SPF 50+ cream with an invisible finish.
- Key ingredients: Mango Butter, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E
- Feel: lightweight with a moisturising feel; helps maintain soft-feeling skin
- Size and price: 100 g, Rs 1,990
It suits you if your skin feels tight after washing, you spend long hours in air-conditioned rooms (which can dry the skin), or you want one step that protects and also feels comfortable. It is also a good pick for drier body areas such as elbows and the backs of the hands.
Quick comparison
- Protection: both SPF 50+
- Finish: both invisible
- Texture: gel is clear and fast-spreading; cream is soft and moisturising
- Best for: gel for oily, combination or sweaty skin; cream for normal to dry skin
- Size and price: both 100 g, Rs 1,990
Not sure? If your T-zone (forehead, nose and chin) shines by lunchtime, go for the gel. If your cheeks feel dry or flaky, go for the cream. Some people keep both: the gel for hot, busy days and the cream for days indoors.
How to apply sunscreen properly
The directions are the same for both:
- Start with clean, dry skin. If you use a serum or moisturiser in the morning, let it absorb first. Sunscreen goes on as the last skincare step.
- Use a generous amount. Cover the face and all exposed skin evenly. A common guide is about two finger-lengths for the face and neck. A thin smear gives less protection than the label says.
- Massage gently in upward motions. Don't forget the ears, the sides and back of the neck, and the hairline.
- Wait 15 minutes. Apply at least 15 minutes before you go into the sun.
- Reapply every two hours while you are in the sun, and straight after swimming or sweating.
Reapplying during a busy day
Reapplying is the step most people skip. A few easy ways to make it happen:
- Keep the tube in your handbag or office drawer.
- Reapply at lunchtime, and again before you leave work if you travel home in daylight.
- After a sweaty bus ride or a game of cricket, blot your face with a tissue and apply a fresh layer.
- A hat, an umbrella and shade still help. Sunscreen works best together with them.
A few cautions
Both sunscreens are for external use only. Keep them away from the eye area and don't apply on broken or irritated skin. Stop using if irritation occurs, and keep the tube out of reach of children. If you have sensitive skin, patch test on a small area first.
If you use products with retinol, such as our anti-aging cream, daily sunscreen is especially important. The retinol cream's own pack says to use sunscreen during the day.
Frequently asked questions
Is SPF 50+ too strong for daily use?
No. SPF 50+ simply means a high level of protection. Both of our sunscreens are made for everyday wear.
Which sunscreen is better for oily skin in Sri Lanka?
The Invisible Sunscreen Gel. It is a clear, lightweight gel that spreads easily without a heavy-feeling finish and tends to feel more comfortable on oily skin in our heat.
Do I need sunscreen if I stay indoors?
If you sit near a window or go out even for short trips, it is a good habit to wear it. On full days indoors away from windows, many people skip reapplying.
Can I use these sunscreens on my body?
Yes. The directions say to apply on the face and exposed skin, so arms, neck and hands are fine.
Can I wear makeup over it?
Yes. Let the sunscreen absorb for a few minutes first, then apply your makeup as usual.
